Festival de falácias

Um dos piores artigos que li, sobre esse tema ou qq outro. Uma aula de como não argumentar, um bestiário de non-sequitur. Só que deu no NYTimes, e tem gente citando como se o artigo tivesse algum significado qualquer. Não tem.

Não estou falando do conteúdo, mas da argumentação, que é fraquíssima e inaceitável num debate sério. Vale a pena analisar para expor os erros. Comentários abaixo, cada um seguindo citação de parte de cada parágrafo.

"THE last three decades are littered with the carcasses ... a long line of well-meaning American diplomats "
Hipérbole vazia.

"True believers in the two-state solution see absolutely no hope elsewhere. "
Provavelmente porque não há. A conferir.

"It’s like 1975 all over again, when the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco fell into a coma. "
Irrelevante para a discussão.

"True, some comas miraculously end."
Vazio e irrelevante para o assunto sob discussão.

"Strong Islamist trends make a fundamentalist Palestine more likely than a small state under a secular government. The disappearance of Israel as a Zionist project, "
Afirmações fortes, sem embasamento. Talvez sejam verdades; seria necessário argumentar.

"All sides have reasons to cling to this illusion. "
Dependente da suposição, não fundamentada, de que é uma ilusão.

"seems to reflect the sentiments of the Jewish Israeli majority ... camouflages relentless efforts to expand Israel’s territory into the West Bank."
Afirmação correta, seguida de acusação de que o sentimento é falso, esta sem embasamento.

"American politicians need the two-state slogan "
Dependente de que é apenas um slogan.

"Finally, the “peace process” industry "
Insinuação maldosa.

"the idea of two states between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea all but disappeared from public consciousness between 1948 and 1967."
Será? Mesmo com esse hiato, talvez imaginário, de 19 anos, é uma ideia duradoura.

"But failures of leadership in the face of tremendous pressures "
Correto, mas milita contra o argumento. Falhas de liderança teriam dado resultados ruins com outras alternativas.

"Those who assume that Israel will always exist as a Zionist project should consider how quickly the Soviet, Pahlavi Iranian, apartheid South African, Baathist Iraqi and Yugoslavian states unraveled, " 
Comparações irrelevantes, e que confundem nação com regime político.

"In all these cases, presumptions about what was “impossible” "
Qualquer regime muda inesperadamente. Outros permanecem. Lição para o caso de Israel em particular: nenhuma.

"JUST as a balloon filled gradually with air bursts " 
Raciocínio por metáfora. Argumento imbecil.

"Britain ruled Ireland for centuries, ... until the establishment of an independent Ireland. "
Por analogia, 2 estados é razoável.

"France ruled Algeria for 130 years ... in 1959, Algeria soon became independent, "
Novamente, o exemplo destrói o argumento do autor.

"Within a few years, both the Soviet Union and the Communist regime were gone."
Irrelevante, e mais uma vez confunde nação com governo.

"as irrational as rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic "
Raciocínio por metáforas mais uma vez. Não dava para usar uma falácia nova?

"The two-state slogan now serves as a comforting blindfold of entirely contradictory fantasies. "
Diplomacia serve para conciliar posições opostas. Desqualificar a diplomacia usando palavras com sentido carregado (fantasia, slogan, blindfold) não é válido.

"We are engaged in negotiations to nowhere. "
Como sabemos disso, exceto por ser uma afirmação do autor? Achismo puro.

"I was a 30-year-old assistant professor, on leave from Dartmouth at the State Department’... It was clear to me that "
O que isso mostra?

"I was summoned to the office of a high-ranking diplomat, who was then one of the State Department’s most powerful advocates for the negotiations."
Apelo à autoridade, falácia elementar.

"“Are you,” he asked me, “personally so sure of your analysis “Yes, sir,” I answered, “I am.”"
Isso é uma análise?

"Had America ... then it might .. It could have ... We could have had "
Coulda woulda oughta mighta hafta. Argumento contrafactual. Irrelevante. 

"negotiations are phony; "
Só temos a afirmação do autor para confiar.

"The end of the 1967 Green Line as a demarcation of potential Israeli "
O que a linha do armistício de 1948, que durou 19 anos, tem de tão fundamental? O artigo não explica.

"Israel may no longer exist as the Jewish and democratic vision ... may not ... a real Palestinian state. ... ruthless oppression, mass mobilization, riots, brutality, terror, "
Parece bastante ruim, essa alternativa que ele prefere.

"Israel’s ... nuclear weapons arsenal "
Irrelevante para o tema do artigo. 

"the chimera of a negotiated two-state solution ... the two-state-fantasy blindfolds "
Mais uma vez, tentando desqualificar o argumento usando xingamentos.

"...secular Palestinians in Israel and the West Bank could ally with Tel Aviv’s post-Zionists, non-Jewish Russian-speaking immigrants, foreign workers and global-village Israeli entrepreneurs. "
Agora quem está se alongando em fantasias é o autor.

"It remains possible ... But the pretense that negotiations under the slogan ...a single state might ... avoiding truly catastrophic"
